In response to Donald Trump’s visit to the United Kingdom on July 13th, thousands of protesters gathered on the streets of London to withstand the current White House Resident’s (ahem, Whoopi Goldberg’s most-used name for him) professedly divisive politics in accordance to the most marginalized groups in society. The March on London is set to be the first of many protests to occur across various cities in Great Britain throughout the weekend.

The extraordinary event, coined as the “Carnival of Resistance”, is the most recent women-led march of the many that have taken place since Trump’s inauguration. Inspired by the theme to #BringTheNoise, the large community of activists sought to use their fearless voices to spread inclusive values and stand up for women’s rights around the world.

One of the most admirable and unique elements of the day was the portrayal of a special symbolism in the oh-so-meaningful message. Various women were pictured drumming on pots and pans, which represent traditional women’s roles, to stifle the historic view that women belong in the home rather than in the workplace or, more relatively, the public service.

Various public figures and service members also stood in unity with women from all walks of life. British political figure and Labor Member of Parliament (MP) Dawn Butler was one of the main supporters and, like the many people who joined the protest, was driven to symbolize women’s power.

One of the most amazing parts of each march so far have been the motivating words written on the many vibrant signs among the endless sea of crowds. Some of the most striking, many of which were held by inspiring young girls, include the following…

“Women get the job done.”

“Little girls with dreams become women with vision.”

“We march forwards, not backwards.”

“Women: the future breakers of glass ceilings.”

“Women’s rights are human rights.”

Most notably, the continuous rises to resistance founded by today’s women embody the influential essence of global sisters standing together. By spreading love through peaceful protests, supporters hope to suppress dehumanizing rhetoric and policies and, importantly, build communities based on a positive, powerful narrative.

Above all, these marches represent an all-embracing world that encourages women of the future to speak their minds rather than remain silent on issues that matter. They seek to show that, eminently, solidarity gives voice, voice creates change and change leads to progress, especially when it comes to women’s representation.

“Solidarity will save us.” - Poetic Betty

“A woman’s place is in the resistance.” - Hayley Gilmore
