Maria De Leon
Maria De Leon is currently enrolled at Butler University in Indianapolis. She is a senior studying Political Science and Critical Communication & Media Studies. Maria’s passion to serve and bring awareness on important issues began when she co-founded a club at her high school that raised awareness about domestic violence and teen-dating abuse. From there on, Maria realized the power of advocacy. At BU Maria is currently serving as the Professional Development Coordinator for the student organization, Latinos Unidos and Administrator for BU’s LWT chapter. In addition, she enjoys being involved in the local community of Indianapolis, especially investing her time in supporting the Latinx community and youth from her high school. She believes that all women from all backgrounds deserve to be present where local, state, and national decisions are made.
She believes that it is important to empower and educate women to become forefront leaders in their communities. For this reason, Maria co-founded a LWT chapter at Butler University to bring together women who aspire to achieve a career in public service or government.
When Maria is not serving the community, doing homework, or present at a student organization meeting she enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring coffee shops, and adding onto her Pinterest boards.
